Palworld has an addictive gameplay loop, but some comfort limitations end up grating: the map hidden by fog of war, the inventory that overflows after five minutes of gathering, nights so dark you can't see anything, and a building system that refuses to place a wall where you want it. The modding community on Nexus Mods has fixed all of that. Here is our selection of 14 free mods, all compatible with Palworld 1.0, sorted by category.

Key takeaways

  • All the mods in this selection are free and available on Nexus Mods.
  • Most require UE4SS (Unreal Engine 4 Scripting System), a modding framework you install once. The version recommended for Palworld is Okaetsu's fork, available on Nexus Mods or GitHub. Since Palworld 1.0, UE4SS is also available in one click through the Steam Workshop.
  • Some mods are client-only (only you see them), others must be installed on both the server and the client. Check each Nexus Mods page.
  • In multiplayer, server and client must have the same versions of the shared mods.

Quality of life

MapUnlocker

MapUnlocker removes the fog of war and reveals the full Palpagos map as soon as it's installed. Fast travel points stay locked and still have to be discovered on foot, which preserves gradual exploration. It's the most downloaded mod in the Palworld community, and for good reason: navigating blind on a map this big with no visual landmarks is frustrating. Compatible with solo, multiplayer, local and community servers. Requires UE4SS. The MapUnlocker folder must be placed in Win64\ue4ss\Mods without any extra nested folder.

Carry Weight Increase

Carry Weight Increase raises your maximum inventory capacity and optionally reduces item weight. The values are fully configurable: you can double the default capacity or multiply it by 10, depending on the comfort you're after without breaking progression. In multiplayer, the mod must be installed on both the server and the client (same version on both sides). Requires UE4SS. Place the mod folder in Win64\Mods and add the matching line in mods.txt.

Fast Travel From Anywhere

Fast Travel From Anywhere removes the restriction that forces you to be in a rest area to use fast travel. You can teleport to any fast travel point, tower or base camp from anywhere on the map. A considerable time saver for explorers who keep going back and forth between bases and farming areas. Compatible with Palworld 1.0. Requires UE4SS with the Blueprint mod loader enabled. The developer recommends the Blueprints version over the DLL version.

Remove Flying Stamina Cost

Remove Flying Stamina Cost removes the stamina drain when you fly on a Pal. In vanilla, your mount's stamina runs out in flight and forces you to land regularly to recharge it. This mod eliminates that constraint: you fly as long as you like, without interruption. Ideal for long-distance exploration sessions or for crossing oceans without risking a fall into the water.

Increased Base Amount and Worker Pals

Increased Base Amount and Worker Pals increases the number of bases you can build and the number of worker Pals per base. In vanilla, the limit on bases and active Pals per camp quickly frustrates players who spot strategic locations on the map without being able to settle there. This mod is particularly recommended in multiplayer with 8 or more players, where the vanilla limitations become a real problem. Requires UE4SS. Server and client installation required in multiplayer.

Interface and HUD

Basic MiniMap

Basic MiniMap adds a configurable minimap at the bottom right of the screen. In vanilla, getting your bearings requires opening the full-screen world map every time, which interrupts gameplay. The minimap shows your position, your heading and nearby points of interest without leaving your game view. Configurable through the Mod Config Menu. Client-only (no need to install it on the server). Requires UE4SS. The mod's .pak and .json files go in Pal\Content\Paks\LogicMods (create the folder if it doesn't exist).

Map Collectables Overhauled

Map Collectables Overhauled (successor to the original Map Collectables Helper) displays all collectibles directly on your map: Lifmunk effigies, eggs, chests, dungeons, ore, fruit trees, enemy camps, and many more. No more need for an external interactive map in your browser. Updated in July 2026, the mod is available as a manual install (UE4SS) or through the Steam Workshop. If you're migrating from the old version, delete the old .pak file in LogicMods before installing the new one.

Mod Config Menu

Mod Config Menu (UI) centralizes the configuration of all your mods in a single in-game interface. Without it, every settings change means manually editing a config file and restarting the game. The MCM has become the modding community's standard: most popular mods support it. It becomes essential once you have more than 2-3 mods installed. Client-only (never install it on the server side to avoid multiplayer sync conflicts). Requires UE4SS.

Pal Analyzer

Pal Analyzer displays the stats and details of every wild Pal just by hovering your cursor over it. Level, passive skills, IVs: you see everything before throwing a sphere. The mod gradually unlocks the information shown as you capture Pals, which preserves a sense of discovery. The interface uses the game's native visual elements to stay consistent. Shift + O shortcut for options. The files go in Pal\Content\Paks\LogicMods. Compatible with multiplayer (Insert key to reload after connecting to the server).

Visuals and atmosphere

Better Night Light

Better Night Light V2.6 replaces the vanilla night lighting with bright blue tones that are easier on the eyes. Palworld's nights in vanilla are extremely dark, to the point of making night play painful without turning off the day/night cycle entirely. This mod fixes the problem without altering gameplay. Simple installation: drop the .pak file in the Palworld\Pal\Content\Paks\~mods folder (create the ~mods folder if it doesn't exist). No UE4SS needed for this mod. Also available on CurseForge.

Enhanced Palworld Visuals

Enhanced Palworld Visuals improves the game's visual quality by disabling certain post-processing effects (excessive fog, depth of field, lens flare, bloom) and enabling anisotropic filtering and sharpening. The result is a sharper, more readable image. Three presets available: Standard (for every PC), Epic (improved draw distance and LOD, for powerful GPUs), and Epic Plus (SSGI + SSR, for high-end setups only).

Building

Less Restrictive Building

Less Restrictive Building removes the main vanilla building restrictions. The mod unlocks floating foundations (above water or in the void), removes the maximum build height, allows placement on very steep slopes (up to 90 degrees), and eliminates annoying collisions. Players who want to build fortresses on cliffs, suspension bridges, or structures impossible in vanilla finally find the creative freedom they were looking for. Requires UE4SS (version 2.5.2 or 3.0.0+). Add LessRestrictiveBuilding : 1 in mods.txt. Compatible with Palworld 1.0.

Our take - Less Restrictive Building is the mod that transforms the Palworld experience the most. Vanilla building is so rigid that it discourages creativity. This mod alone justifies installing UE4SS. If you only install one mod from this list, pick this one (or MapUnlocker, it's a tough choice).

Tools and editors

Palworld Pal Editor

Palworld Pal Editor is a standalone save editor that lets you modify your Pals directly in the save file. You can adjust the level, experience, passive skills, IVs, equipped skills, condenser level and even the species of each Pal. The tool runs as a GUI (graphical interface), WebUI (browser), Docker or CLI depending on your preference. No need for UE4SS or Python for the precompiled executable. Compatible with local Steam saves located in %localappdata%\Pal\Saved\SaveGames. Interface available in English, Japanese and Simplified Chinese.

Palworld Gameplay and Combat Tuner

Palworld Gameplay and Combat Tuner is a unified configurator that lets you precisely adjust every game parameter: inventory capacity, tech points, base range on the player side, and enemy HP, damage, boss scaling, aggressiveness on the NPC side. Everything is set through a graphical application ("Tune") that installs the mod in one click. The tuner automatically handles the installation of UE4SS and PalSchema. Each section is independent: you can rebalance combat without touching the economy, or vice versa. Note: if Palworld is installed in Program Files (x86), the configurator may show a "system files" error. Move the Palworld folder out of Program Files or create a copy of the folder elsewhere to work around the problem.

How to install Palworld mods

Three installation methods coexist depending on the type of mod. Always read each mod's Nexus Mods page for specific instructions.

.pak mods (the simplest, no UE4SS needed)

  • Download the mod from Nexus Mods.
  • Place the .pak file in Palworld\Pal\Content\Paks\~mods (create the ~mods folder if it doesn't exist).
  • Launch the game. The mod is active.
  • Examples: Better Night Light, Enhanced Palworld Visuals.

Blueprint mods (.pak files in LogicMods, require UE4SS)

  • Install UE4SS (see below).
  • Enable the BPModLoaderMod in Mods\mods.txt (set it to 1, enabled by default in UE4SS v3+).
  • Place the mod's files (.pak and .json) in Palworld\Pal\Content\Paks\LogicMods (create the folder if it doesn't exist).
  • Launch the game.
  • Examples: Basic MiniMap, Pal Analyzer, Fast Travel From Anywhere.

Lua / Script mods (require UE4SS)

  • Install UE4SS (see below).
  • Extract the mod folder into Palworld\Pal\Binaries\Win64\Mods.
  • Add the matching line in mods.txt (e.g. MapUnlocker : 1).
  • Launch the game.
  • Examples: MapUnlocker, Carry Weight Increase, Less Restrictive Building, Increased Base Amount.

Installing UE4SS

UE4SS is the prerequisite for most Palworld mods. Two options in 2026:

  • Steam Workshop (recommended method): subscribe to UE4SS on the Steam Workshop, then enable it in game via Options > Mod Management. It's the simplest method.
  • Manual installation: download the Palworld version of UE4SS from Nexus Mods or from Okaetsu's GitHub. Extract the archive into Palworld\Pal\Binaries\Win64.

Don't combine the two methods. If you use the Workshop version, don't also install it manually. Two copies of UE4SS running at the same time crash the game on launch.

Back up your save folder (%localappdata%\Pal\Saved\SaveGames) before installing a mod for the first time.

Our advice - Install UE4SS once, then add mods one at a time. If the game crashes after adding a mod, that mod is the problem, not UE4SS. Remove it, relaunch, and check the Nexus Mods page for a known incompatibility with your Palworld version. The Mod Config Menu is the second mod to install (after UE4SS) because it simplifies the configuration of all the ones that follow.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do mods work in multiplayer?

Some do, others don't. "Client-only" mods (Basic MiniMap, Pal Analyzer, Enhanced Visuals, Mod Config Menu) are only installed on your PC and need nothing on the server side. Mods that change gameplay (Carry Weight, Increased Base Amount, Less Restrictive Building) generally have to be installed on the server AND on every client, with the same version. Check each mod's Nexus Mods page for multiplayer compatibility.

Do mods work on Xbox / PlayStation / Game Pass?

Nexus Mods mods work on the Steam PC version. The Xbox Game Pass version (Microsoft Store) supports some mods with a different installation path (C:\XboxGames\Palworld\Content\Pal\Binaries\WinGDK). Console versions (Xbox, PlayStation) don't support Nexus Mods mods. The official Steam Workshop has existed since Palworld 1.0, but only for Windows servers.

Can mods corrupt my save?

It's rare but possible, especially with save editors (Pal Editor). Always back up your SaveGames folder before installing a new mod or modifying your Pals. Most quality-of-life mods (MapUnlocker, MiniMap, Better Night Light) don't affect saves.

Can you get banned for using mods?

Palworld has no active anti-cheat system in multiplayer. Pocketpair doesn't prohibit modding. On community servers, the admin decides which mods are allowed. In solo, there are no restrictions.

How do I uninstall a mod?

For Lua mods: delete the mod's folder in Win64\Mods and remove the matching line in mods.txt. For Blueprint mods: delete the .pak and .json files from the LogicMods folder. For simple .pak mods: delete the .pak file from the ~mods folder. Relaunch the game.
